  3. I suppose the most interesting point in the novel is about how two women from different social classes come to rely on each other and try to overcome a problem together, despite the huge disadvantage they had. I find it also interesting how they met. which was a bunch of unfortunate events piled on each other. It was almost like they were destined to meet and support each other.

  4. I'd have to say that the most interesting part in the novel is Rasheeds death. I didn't like him from when he started treating Mariam badly for her miscarriages, and I was wondering how she would get away from him because surly she couldn't live the rest of her life with him, especially after he made her eat the rocks.

  5. I thought three points in the novel were interesting. This was when Laila was taken in by Rasheed and Mariam and finds out shes pregnant and marries Rasheed. Also when mariam and laila finally become close to eachother. the third was how Laila and Mariam became so close that Mariam killed Rasheed to save Laila and Mariam dies.

  7. The most interesting part in the novel is when Tariq returns back into Laila's life. I was really upset when Rasheed said he was died so I was excited to hear he was alive. Also I was hopeing he would save Laila, Mariam, and the kids from Rasheed.

  8. The most interesting part in the novel is when Rasheed was choking Laila, and Mariam the courage to bash Rasheed with the shovel. Also, Mariam knew she had to stay because Laila and the kids would have got caught.

  9. I think the most interesting part was then Mariam mom was found dead becuase before she died she was saying how she would die if mariam left her and when mariam was leaving she seen her mom in the chair and when she slept infront of jalils house waiting for him only to find out he was at home. when jalil was getting his daughter to get married i think this proved that everything mariams mom was saying was correct and that jalil was a lier

  10. I think the most interesting part of the novel was when Tariq showed up at Rasheed, Mariam and Laila's house. At first I thought Tariq was a ghost because he had "died". I think this is interesting and also significant because Laila's daughter Aziza is Tariq's child and no one would have thought Tariq would be back into Laila's life. Having Tariq show up changed the course of everyones lives and eventually led to a safe and happy life for Laila and her children.

  11. I'd also have to agree with Bara because when the guy cam to tell Laila that Tariq was dead I really believed it and was sad because the possibility of him being alive somewhere was the most important thing in Lailas life at the time because she'd just lost her parents, but when he came back in the book i felt relief because Aziza would have the father-daughter relationship that Laila had with her father that Rasheed would never have given her.

  12. @ Bianca I agree with you because i felt there were a bunch of interesting points in the novel. First part was when Laila and Mariam became close, threatened Rasheed, secondly when Rasheed finds out that Aziza was not her daughter, thirdly when Tariq comes back to Afghanistan and finally when Zalmai likes Tariq, which made him very emotional towards the end of the novel. I think these four scenes were very interesting because i thought to myself that what would happen next?

  13. The most interesting part in the novel that I found significant was when Mariam found her mother dead when she was coming back from Herat. It just happened all of a sudden, Nana saying that she will die if Mariam left her actually came true which left Mariam being traumztized by her death. It left Mariam with nothing and ended up being the cause of her marrying Rasheed.

  14. Although there were many significant events that took place in, A Thousand Splendid Suns, the most important occasion that interested me occurred when Mariam killed Rasheed. In a moment of pure rage and anger, Mariam, a timid and passive character finally stood up for herself. Mariam felt an emotion and acted on it. That scene had been the turning point for Mariam because she finally broke out of her shell.

  15. The most interesting point in the book was when Mariam tells Laila to run away and live a new life, after killing Rasheed. She took all the blame for committing the crime and attempting to hide the corpse. Mariam knew that she would die for kiiling Rasheed, but she still did it to save Laila.

  16. I think there are two interesting parts in the novel. In book one, I found it very interesting and captivating when Mariam goes to Herat to visit Jalil. He leaves her outside the gate and does not allow her to come in. she then later goes back home to find her mother dead. I could not put the book down during this part. I felt very bad for Mariam because the father she adored so much let her down and the mother whom she did not love as much as her father killed herself because Mariam picked Jalil over Nana.
Another interesting part was when Tariq comes back; I had felt so bad for Laila because her most important person was dead. However, when he showed up I was surprised and excited for Laila because this meant she could leave Rasheed and take Aziza back. I had felt that all the abuse Laila ad Mariam had faced could end because Tariq could save them.

  17. The most interesting point i found thus far was at the beginning when mariam realises her mother was right that Jalil never actually loved her and all his gifts to her was sort of not really given to her becuase he wanted too, but rather he had too. So i found it interesting how when she is about to leave for Kabul, how see completly denies Jalil any chance of redeming himself, for his actions.

  18. I think what the most interesting point of the novel is how a man can be so abusive towards women. Both women gave Rasheed everything and he still treated them like dirt. It almost makes me want to punch him in the face.

  19. I think there are two very intresting parts in this novel the first being when Rasheed was killed by Mariam, not because Rasheed was a cruel man and deserved what he got, it was the most intresting part because Mariam became her own person, through out the novel Mariam was doing what other people told her, in this instance Mariam was her own person and made her own choice.
The second most intresting part in the novel was when Tariq came back for Laila as he promised. I felt bad for Laila when Rasheed got some person to tell her that he had died, she was crushed by this lie. When he came back she got a little bit of her childhood back, and she was now able to show Aziza her real father. The fact that Tariq coming back allowed Laila and the kids to escape, without a man the Taliban would have beaten Laila.

  20. The most interesting part for me when Jalil showed his true colours to Mariam when she tried to visit him at his house and how he made her get married as soon as she comes to live with him

  21. I haven't finished this book yet but I think that the most interesting part so far was when they went to see the Buddhas. After reading about the bad things that happen to Mariam it was finally nice to read about a time that was all out good. Nothing bad had happened during that day and it was just perfect.

  22. The most interesting part by far for me in this novel is when Mariam kills Rasheed. This scene showed me Mariams bravery and heart. Mariam was my favorite character throughout the book and this scene is what made me pick her as my favorite character. It showed tremendous amount of courage and strength to stand up to a man especially in those times and the type of society that they lived in.

  23. Mariam killing Rasheed was also my favourite part in the novel. That is because Mariam was the victim throughout the novel, she was the one who experienced both physical and emotional abuse, and in that scene it seems as if Mariam just had enough and used all rage against Rasheed and ended up killing him. This is significant because, it demonstrates the bravery and strength Mariam possesses.
