  1. I noticed a couple things that were similar between the Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns. They both take place in Afghanistan in the same kind of time/setting. Also both books are about relationships.A Thousand Splendid suns focused on the bond between Mariam and Laila and The Kite Runner focused on Amir and Hassan

  3. The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns are very similar but at the same time different. They are similar because both are being taken place in Afghanistan, there are two people who are very close to each other and always took care of each other (Amir/Hassan, Mariam/Laila), there's one violent person escalating the action of the novel (Assef,Rasheed). They are different because each book is a life about each gender; A young man and a young woman. The novels show the perspective of an average life of a woman and man in Afghanistan and their lifestyle.

  4. There are many similarities between Husseini’s novels, The Kite Runner and a Thousand Splendid Suns. Both books take place in Afghanistan and are narrated through the lives of four main characters; Amir, Hassan, Mariam and Laila. The interesting thing about these books are that one book, The Kite Runner, takes place in Afghanistan before the war whereas, A Thousand Splendid Suns occurs after the war. The Kite Runner is written in the perspectives of male characters whereas, A Thousand Splendid Suns is written in the perspective of female characters. The number one similarity that can be seen in both books is that we see the characters as they lead their lives from children to adulthood. Khalid Husseni writes both books so vividly that I felt that I was in Afghanistan living with all these characters.

  5. Throughout both of the novels they portray the life in Afghanistan. From a childs perspective as well as an adults. It also shows the relationship between friends from their childhood life and as they grow up together. In both novels it shows that Afghanistan is known as a country where they are known to have many conflicts(war). From these two books you get different perspectives as well as a taste of how the Afghan life is represented.

  6. First off this is irrelevant, becuase we did not read the Kite runner in 4u English, thank you very much.

But since you asked, apart from the obvious of the stories taking place in Afghanistan, it shows the many struggles and hardships the characters go through. Also i would have to agree that the kite runner is in the perspective of a male while splendid suns is a female perspective.

  7. The similarities I see between these two books is the war of Afghanistan and the betrayal and redeeming of characters. Both books involve the Taliban and the affect they had on the country. You see the hardships faced by the citizens and in both books we see an orphanage. In the Kite Runner, you see an orphanage trying to run by doing anything possible. In A Thousand Splendid Suns, you see an orphanage taking in children from mothers who cannot support them and you see people trying to help it. Another similarity in both books is betrayal between family and friends. Amir betrays Hassan in the Kite Runner, but he redeems himself with Hassan’s son. In the Thousand Splendid Suns, Mariam’s father betrays her and is ashamed of her, but he tries to redeem himself when he comes to see her and leaves money for her. There are many other similarities because it takes place in the same country and it is written by the same author, but this is all I can remember from Kite runner.

  8. Yeah the war I would have to say. The Taliban's invasion and a lot of Afghans fleeing to other countries. All the rich people, Jalil in A Thousand Splendid Suns and Baba, in The Kite Runner, lost all their possessions, their houses, everything. It's probably the biggest similarity. The way the Afghans lived after the invasion.

  9. Both of Khaled Housseni's novels are actually really similar. They both take place in Afghanistan and usually consist of two main characters Hassan, Amir and Mariam and Laila. Both books mainly focus on the lifestyle of Afghanistan and the people there, but one main difference is throughout most of the “Kite Runner” Afghanistan are actually seen as a peaceful country except the end. But in “A thousand Splendid Suns” Afghanistan is portrayed as a country in war throughout most of the novel.

  10. The similarities in the Kite Runner and A thousand splendid suns are that they take place in Afganistan and they show how Afganistan was before the war, how things were peaceful and women were allowed to go to school and leave the house when they like. Then it showed Afganistan during the war how neighbourhoods were torn apart and how people were raped and killed. In both novels we see Afganistan in the eyes of to characters, at first they are young and they age as the novel progresses. The difference is that in the Kite Runner we see Afganistan in the eyes of the male, and in A thousand splendid suns we see Afganistan in the eyes of the female. Both novels the parents neglect their children in the Kite Runner it was not that bad, Amir's father did not accept him, he thought he was "soft". In A thousand splendid suns Mariam's father did not allow her into his house when she was waiting outside for the night, and afterwards he forced her into marriage. In both novels there are bastard children, Hassan and Mariam. Neither as truly accepted by their fathers.

  11. Similarities that I found both books have in common; The Kite Runner and A Thousand Splendid Suns, is that they both take place in Afghanistan and experience the Mujahedeen and Soviet war, they are both narrated by the main characters. In addition, the kite runner focuses on Amir and Hassan both males and Thousand Splendid Suns focuses on two females Leila and Mariam. Amir neglected and did not receive the love of his father and Leila felt the same but towards her mother and also, the fact that both Jalil and Baba were two successful Afghan men living a luxurious life.
