In the novel The Book of Negroes, Aminata makes a vow to herself proclaiming that she will return to her homeland and become the village djeli. Do you believe she accomplished her goal of becoming the djeli? Explain why or why not?
I believe that Aminata has accomplished her goal of becoming a djeli. When she went to Britain to abolish the trade of slaves, she was able to spread her own stories to young children and the aboliionists as well. Although she was not able to come back home to Bayo and tell her story, there were still others who were able to hear her out. She even became known as the story-teller of the school May teaches in, which shows that Aminata has achieved her goal. The story she tells influences the people to do the right thing, which is why I believe that Aminata has accomplished her goal of being a fantastic djeli.
I think she accomplished what she set out to do. Not only was she a djeli in other native villages but she went on to become a grand djeli of the academy in England.
I believe that she has accomplished in being a Djeli. It's the perfect thing for her to do. Why? Because she can actually tell TRUE stories about her past life. This will give young children and teenagers an idea of a dangerous life of a slave. Real life experiences are always a great story.
Although, Aminata didn't return to her village, I believe that she accomplished her goal of becoming a djeli. Through all her trials and tribulations she had the power and courage to reshare her story with the aboltionists and the world. I believe this is remarkable because most people when they go through such hard times want to forget all those rought times and by relieveing all these times it shows strength on her part
I believe that Aminata has acomplished he rgoal of becoming a djeli. In the past experiences and problems she went through made her in to a stronger person, giving her the courage and bravery to tell stories to her people.
I agree with Sulekha. I believe that Aminata did accomplish her goals in becoming a storyteller. She was a storyteller in the village of Africa, American, and also London. Aminata did more then she expected because she only wanted to become a storyteller in her village unfortunately she did not become a storyteller in her village.
I agree with everyone so far that she did become a djeli. Not only did she get to share stories in Africa, her homeland but she was able to go beyond that and go on into London to be the djeli there. It may have not been the exactly how Aminata imagined it but it is still something. Not only does she just tell stories but she can use them to help the abolitionists in there goals.
I believe that Aminata did accomplish her goal in becoming a djeli. Her dream was to tell her life stories to the people of her village when she returned home. In Africa Aminata did achieve this goal, even though it was not to the people of her village. She told these stories to everyone who came to visit her, the village that rescued her invited people of other villages to come, so she achieved her goal and more. She told them about her struggles in America and Nova Scotia, about her family and friends. She wanted them to know her; she wanted to teach them to have a strong will and to never give up. Not only did she accomplish her goal in Africa, she accomplished it in London also. She told stories to the younger generation, so they would not commit the same mistakes. Aminata did accomplish her goal and she influenced many people with her stories.
I agree with Makilpriya's comment above. Aminata accomplished her goal in becoming a djeli through spreading her significant life story. Her experience is what influenced and inspired others to put an end to the terrible mistreatment of all Negroes. Without her help in may circumstances the story as a whole would not be as meaningful and powerful as it truly is.
I agree with the previous comment stated above. Even though Aminata didn't precisely accomplished her goal of becoming the Bayo djeli, she accomplished much more. With becoming the djeli for the abolitionist, the villagers in Africa and for the Negroes back in America. This example shows, that if you put work into anything; in the end result you get much more then you expected.
Aminata has not completely achieved her goal of becoming the village Djeli because to be a village Djeli, Aminata would have to be a part of the Djeli’s blood line and also live back in Bayo. Aminata has however become another kind of story teller, one that lives in Western countries and spreads the word of her and her people’s journey not only to a few village members but to entire cities and eventually nations through her book.
