I think for Aminata home was always back in Bayo with her parents enjoying the good times she always had.
I don't think that for her the meaning of home changed. I feel that her home was always Bayo which just turned into a dream Aminata longed for. Although she did move from place to place and she did meet some very loving and caring people, I don't think those places were home. I just saw them as shelter and a place to hope that you'll survive.
I think that is what made the novel so significant, the fact that so many were pulled away from their homes in an instant.
I agree with Kamal that Aminata's home was with her parents. People who she could count on and rely on. Throughout her journey she met new people which she hadn't known before. It would have been easier for Aminata if she had to privilage to have her parents there with her through her hardships. I think that at the end of the day, no matter what, Aminata would want to be back home with her parents under any circumstance.
I think Aminata always wanted to go back to her physical home back with her parents, becuase there she felt secure and of course would not suffer through what she did. So i think home to Aminata was really a safer place in which she would be able to feel that safeness. And i dont think it changed in her mind, she always wanted to go back to her village.
The meaning of home to Aminanta means going back to living the old lifestyle in her village before the Toubabus kidnapped her and changed her entire life. The meaning of home not only refers to the environment and location of where she used to be, but the people, customs, and freedom she was apart of in the past. The meaning of home changes throughout the novel as her knowledge of the big picture progresses. She grows and ages while learning more about how the society functions. From the languages people use to interact with one another, to the slavery she becomes forced into joining, she realizes that her dreams of returning to home slowly fade.
I think the meaning of home is going back to a place where you have a loved one. In the novel I think the meaning of home was freedom. Home was a place where the person could be whatever they wanted and do whatever they wanted. Aminata’s meaning for home was her homeland. She did not feel as if she was at home in America or Nova Scotia, unless she was with the people she loved. Even when she was in her Homeland she did not feel as if she was home, the people there thought she was an outsider. She wanted to be part of them, but they did not include her. So I believe that Aminata wanted her home so much, but her home did not accept her. So she had no home, so the meaning of home changed for her.
The meaning of home for Aminata was going back to her village. I believe the meaning of home didn't change throughout the book. This meaning of home kept her determination up throughout the novel. Without her hope of getting home, Aminata I predict would not get through her journey and she would probably give up.
The meaning of home in the novel is the land where you came from, where your language is known where you cannot be violated without somone helping you. even though Aminata found a home in london her real home is in Africa
To Aminata, I think the meaning of home is wherever her family is. At first her home was in Bayo with her parents and her childhood memories of happy times. As the book progresses, however, we see that Aminata’s new home is in Nova Scotia where she hopes her daughter and husband will eventually comeback for her. Aminata has lived in many places and traveled so much that she can never really call any of those locations her home because they don’t matter to her as much as where ever her family is.
